New Irish Asthma & Allergy Information Videos

RTE Star Nuala Carey Presents New Asthma & Allergy Videos on The Asthma Society of Ireland's Website

The Asthma Society of Ireland has partnered with RTE Star Nuala Carey to present a new online information resource for people with asthma and allergies in Ireland.

The new online videos contain advice and information on all aspects of asthma and allergies. They cover a wide range of topics including the link between asthma and the environment, what happens during an allergy test, what are common asthma triggers in the home, how to keep an asthma friendly home and swimming with asthma. With one asthma related death in Ireland every week, the majority of people with asthma in Ireland do not have their condition under control. The Asthma Society hopes these new videos will help people with asthma and allergies and their families to understand the condition better and encourage them to seek further advice on asthma and allergy control.

ISPCC Marks Safer Internet Day with Tips and Advice for Keeping Safe Online

Marking Safer Internet Day, the ISPCC celebrates the boom in online technology but urges children, young people and their parents to be vigilant when using the internet. The ISPCC is aware from Childline services that 98% of children who contact the service do so through their mobile phone or online. Through our Childline Online service we are connecting with children using media that they feel comfortable with.

While this access can be a wholly positive experience for the majority of children, there is a need to issue a safety warning: sadly the internet is also an increasingly preferred platform for bullying. Ireland has one of the highest bullying rates in Europe, with over 1 in 4 children reporting bullying. Less visible and more invasive, cyber/text bullying specifically is on the rise, with 1 in 10 young people in Ireland calling it “just part of life.”
